A great start to SUMMER!

This month Prosperity Gardens kicked off their summer programs on N. First Street in Champaign. Student employees from the READY Program started their part-time jobs on the farm this week, learning how to do everything from water tomatoes correctly to harvesting produce for the markets!

Students also got a chance to work at two farm stands during the Downtown Champaign Farmers Market, and the Farmers Market on 1st. Students enjoyed working in the gardens, as well as working with the public, developing great customer service skills!

This also marked the start of Garden Club. Each Wednesday during the summer, 25 students from the Don Moyer Boys and Girls Club join Prosperity Gardens for garden and nutrition lessons in the gardens. Students learned about how to plant and how to care for new plants, as well has how to harvest lettuce which they used in a healthy snack. The lettuce tacos were a big hit and we can’t wait for next week!
